Motion Blur

By creating motion blur in a photo, you can convey the feeling of movement or action. You can create a sense of motion in two ways: Keep the camera stable so the background stays sharp while the subject moves within the frame. Alternatively, move (pan) the camera to follow the moving subject and keep it as sharp as possible, with the background becoming blurred from the camera movement. Do not use software to “generate” motion blur. Capture the motion in camera, and please be sure the motion blur is a major component of your photo.

Our judge this month is Colleen Miniuk (pronounced Min-ik). You may remember Colleen from her excellent presentation last year on mindfulness.

Here' how Colleen describes herself: "I'm a full-time photographer, author, publisher, instructor, speaker, stand-up paddleboarder, and river rafter. Besides being passionate about the great outdoors and outdoor communications, I am fluent in sarcasm, in love with bubbles, and not ashamed for eating pie for breakfast. I reside in Chandler, Arizona, on the ancestral homeland of the Hohokam, in the Colorado River watershed."
