Yes--coming up with good titles are important for a couple of reasons, I think. One is that doing so may require you to further contemplate your photo, which should be a rewarding exercise--perhaps helping you discover something in it that you hadn't previously and thus inspire you to make further discoveries in your subsequent photo-taking/making. Another reason is that it helps anyone viewing your photo see more in it and appreciate things about it that they may not have otherwise. And if you're selling photos, a great title is invaluable.
And if you get stuck after a good long try? There's always AI to give you some hints!
1) While in Florence I connected with Italian photographer Raffaele Ferrari (https://www.raffaeleferrari.com/) and (https://firenzeurbanlifestyle.com/days-of-summer-raffale-ferrari/). He offers workshops that are much smaller and personalized than most, maxing out at 4 people, and also less expensive than most because he told me he "lives simply" and doesn't need much money. In Italy, India, Cambodia, THailand, Vietnam, Portugal, France. He offers workshops at places he knows intimately, and he's a gentle guide, mentor, and personality, with excellent English. I'm considering doing the Angkor Wat workshop in February. Anyone want to join?
2) Our apartment host in Florence also turned out to be a photographer who offers hiking adventures in Croatia and Italy. He shared that Macduff Everton, landscape photographer, has wanted to partner with him for a photography workshop. It could be in the Dolomites for landscapes, or Tuscany, Puglia or Sicily for landscapes, food, and markets. If we wanted to have a club trip, we would need to let him know how many, the region we want, and whether we would want 3, 4, or 5 star hotel - and then he'd give us a price. Anyone interested in doing this in 2027 or 2028?
I noticed that you were not at recent zooms but it sounds like you were at a wonderful place. I have been to Firenza three times and it is a beautiful place. I am looking forward to seeing some photos in the upcoming weeks. Welcome home!
Thanks Bruce! I had the good fortune of several things coming together - my sister (prof at CSU Fort Collins) was going to teach an art history course in Firenza and invited me to join her, knowing I would understand and respect the intensity of her managing the summer course, and members of our IEN team are now spread out and we work mostly remotely (with one who worked 18 months from Taiwan because of her husband doing doctoral work), and so I asked the team if I could possibly work remotely for a month, and then vacation for 2 weeks with her and other family ... and the answer was an enthusiastic "GO"! So it was truly wonderful to live and work in Firenze, right next to the Uffizi, getting to know the neighborhood people, no cars, walking everywhere (the exact polar opposite of my current rural life), and reawakening my city genes when I lived in DC and Paris. This was my fifth time there, and I had been studying Italian with the Pimsleur app, thanks to Frank, so I was able to manage pretty well. I have a couple thousand photos, not sure how to manage/ process them, but yes, you'll slowly see some of them. I think Italy could become my version of your beloved England. :)
